The Stardust Resort and Casino was a prominent hotel and casino located on the famous Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, USA. It operated from 1958 to 2006 and became an iconic landmark known for its elaborate theme decor and extensive gaming options. The resort was opened by two of the most influential figures in Las Vegas history: Glenn Enterprises’ owner E. Parry Thomas and Tony Cornero’s associate Moe Dalitz.
Early Years and Notable Features (1958-1970s)
During the 1950s, a small motel on the south side of Boulder Highway, online casino approximately five miles southeast of Downtown Las Vegas, was purchased for $600,000. After some negotiations with local business leaders and the construction company Marnell Corrao Associates, E. Parry Thomas secured financing from his investors to transform this site into the Stardust Hotel. Its architectural design featured a Spanish Colonial-style resort hotel built around three courtyards and offering 1,144 guest rooms.
Upon opening in July of ’58, guests flocked to experience what would soon become Las Vegas’s premier entertainment complex at that time. Upon entry into this elaborate themed property visitors could choose their favorite path through the beautifully designed hallways leading them towards multiple floors with various gaming facilities. From an entrance adorned by large painted murals inspired from Mexican folk art depicting Don Quixote and Dulcinea riding on horseback together as a couple – representing both love & freedom.
The interior, decorated in the style of old-world European casinos but updated to appeal directly towards tourists who visited Vegas – included many lavish amenities such as a private beach pool called ‘The Beach’, also known simply by “Stardust” at night; an ice skating rink built entirely indoors inside their spacious central atrium.
Expansion and Innovations (1980s-1990s)
As new casinos started popping up on the strip, it seemed like they had no choice but to stand out from competition through creative innovations in design architecture & services. During this decade they revamped their hotel space increasing room size significantly adding modern amenities such as air conditioning inside what previously felt cramped rooms; added more dining options which catered towards variety tastes.
Stardust was among first resorts within its class incorporating advanced sound systems so each table received amplified ambiance through these installed speakers throughout property ensuring no matter where guest sat – music would always be present.
